SEOUL , South Korea — SEOUL , South Korea — After significant increases in traffic for each of its last two shows, the KoFurn International Furniture & Woodworking Machinery Fair here is expecting huge growth again for its 2002 edition, set for Oct. 16-20.
Strategically located in northeast Asia, KoFurn advertises itself as a bridge into the markets of China and Japan. The 18-year-old fair is held at the Convention and Exhibition Center, or Coex, here.
About 500 manufacturers are expected to participate, including more than 300 in furniture. The more than 60,000 buyers expected to attend come largely from South Korea, but the market serves the entire ASEAN region.
South Korea's furniture exports surged to $222 million in 2000, more than double 1998's $107 million total and 46% better than 1999's $151 million.
Show organizers hope and are planning for unification of North and South, which would make Korea a strategic transportation hub for Asia, providing railroad connection from Europe throughout Asia.
The show's organizer is the non-profit Korea Federation of Furniture Industry Cooperatives, which has posted information on the show's Web site at www.kofurn.or.kr.
