FORT WORTH , Texas — FORT WORTH , Texas — Steve Woodward has resigned as The Bombay Company's senior vice president of merchandising to become president of Illuminations, a chain of candle stores.
Carmie Mehrlander, president and chief executive officer of the 422-store Bombay, will assume merchandising responsibilities while the company looks for a replacement.
In a press release, Mehrlander wished Woodward the best and said that in the past four years he had been a key member of the Bombay team "that helped set the new direction for merchandising."
The largely mall-based specialty home furnishing retailer has faced a series of same-store sales declines in recent months. For its fiscal first quarter ended May 5, it posted a $3 million net loss, and said the furniture category was a drag on profits.
