Hy Albert, fabric exec

By Furniture Today Staff -- Furniture Today, June 24, 2002

Herman "Hy" Albert, former owner and chief executive officer of Spectrum Fabrics, has died at age 79.

Albert joined Spectrum in 1947 and became president in 1964. The company later was sold to Consolidated Foods, now Sara Lee.

In 1980 he acquired partial ownership of Spectrum and in 1984 became sole owner. In 1992 a private investment group acquired a majority interest in the company, which then was sold to Covington Inds. in 1994.

Albert is survived by his wife, a daughter, a son and daughter-in-law, and three sisters.

Contributions may be made to the Herman and Ruth Albert Thoracic and Oncology Research Center at Duke University Medical Center, Durham, N.C.
