DES PLAINES, Ill. — DES PLAINES, Ill. — Ronald McDonald helped with the heavy lifting when Spring Air donated 36 new bed sets to one of the Chicago-area Ronald McDonald Houses.
The house near Children's Memorial Hospital here opened in 1977 and was the second house of its kind in the world. The house serves as a home-away-from-home for the families of children receiving medical treatment at the hospital.
Spring Air donated nine queen and 27 twin mattress sets from its Chicago manufacturing facility. The old sets were donated to Intervoice, a homeless shelter in Chicago.
"We recognize the enormous good will the Ronald McDonald House has provided over the years," said Jim Nation, president and chief executive officer of Spring Air. "It only makes sense to give back to the community with what we can offer, and we intend to do this with more of their facilities in the United States."
