Vegas vote postponed again

LAS VEGAS — LAS VEGAS — The Las Vegas City Council has once again delayed a vote on final approval for the proposed World Market Center, but the developers of the furniture complex say the project is moving ahead.
Shawn Samson, a managing partner for the project, said the developers have successfully addressed retail concerns about the retail component of the market building. "We are confident it will pass" when the issue comes up again in two weeks, he said.
The latest delay will give the council and mayor a chance to review the agreement relating to retail concerns, Samson said. He was encouraged by the support Mayor Oscar Goodman voiced for the project. "He said this is the best project for downtown and he totally supports it," Samson said.
The issue is scheduled to come up again at the council's Sept. 4 meeting.
Groundbreaking on the first phase of the proposed market center has not yet taken place. The developers anticipate holding their first furniture market in 2004.
