Anthem Leather boosting warehouse, office space

High Point — Leather supplier Anthem Leather is adding 20,000 square feet to its marketing and distribution center here, increasing warehouse capacity by nearly 70% and adding office and storage space.
The expansion will be completed in early October. Kirkland Inc. is the contractor.
The addition will provide space for cut-and-sew, for warehouse racks, and for inventory for big volume accounts. Anthem also will be able to show finished frames using its leather, although company President Bob Wilson emphasized the company is not making finished product.
"We need room desperately," Wilson said. "We did not expect to reach this point for another three or four years. However, due to our fast growth, we have reached capacity in just two years."
There is still space at the site for the building to be expanded by another 20%, he added.
Wilson said Anthem's cut-and-sew and cut-to-pattern operations are about 20% of its business, and he expects it to grow further. He also said Anthem plans to pursue the office/contract furniture segment more aggressively, stocking more product for the category.
