Ads promote renting to avoid debt

PLANO, Texas — Want to stay out of debt? Try renting to own, RTO retailer Rent-A-Center is urging consumers in a new multimedia campaign.

Called “Credit Free Life,” the campaign uses 60-second TV commercials, radio and newspaper ads, e-mail and a Web microsite at www.CreditFreeLife.com to promote its message that consumers can use RTO to avoid going deeper in debt.

The campaign will run through early 2009, Rent-A-Center said in a press release. Company CEO Mark Speese appears on camera in the TV and microsite elements of the campaign.

“We believe people should know there is a very viable option for enjoying quality merchandise without down payments, high-cost credit card charges, or the burden of debt,” Speese said in the release.
