Design group honors Casey

HIGH POINT — Design Professionals of North Carolina, an umbrella group for several interior design organizations, has honored High Point Market Authority President Brian Casey for his outstanding contributions to the organization.
Casey was cited for his efforts to overturn rulings by the North Carolina Department of Revenue that had forced some designers to collect state sales tax on their services.
The North Carolina legislature passed two bills earlier this year that exempt interior design services from the state's 6.75% sales tax. The group said Casey was one of the first furniture industry leaders to support their cause, and he later testified on their behalf before the Senate Finance Committee.
“He helped the Senators understand the importance of interior designers to the industry,” said Susan Carson, a Winston-Salem, N.C., designer who helped lead the fight to overturn the tax rulings. “And he spoke about the broader impact of what this issue meant for the High Point Market and the state of North Carolina.”
DPNC is an alliance of the North Carolina chapters of the American Society of Interior Design, the Interior Design Society, the International Interior Design Assn., the National Kitchen and Bath Assn. and the High Point Design Center.
