TRINITY, N.C. — Sealy spokeswoman Dot Richardson has accepted a high-profile position in President Bush's new crusade against obesity and overeating in America.
Richardson, a top athlete and medical doctor, has been named vice chairman of the President's Council on Physical Fitness and Sports.
Richardson, a two-time Olympic gold medalist in softball and Sealy's sleep wellness spokeswoman, will work with former National Football League star Lynn Swann, the council's chairman, to urge Americans to exercise more, eat nutritiously and maintain a healthy, balanced lifestyle, which includes getting quality sleep.
The President's Council on Physical Fitness and Sports is a major component of President Bush's "Healthier US Initiative," unveiled recently at the White House.
"We are very happy for Dot and are proud to be working in a long-term relationship with a national authority on health, wellness and physical fitness," said Dave McIlquham, president and chief executive officer of Sealy. "Dot has been an integral part of Sealy's sleep wellness efforts, and we are confident she will be successful in driving President Bush's high-profile initiative for the benefit of all Americans."
Richardson, an orthopedic surgeon, is medical director of the National Training Center's Sports Medicine Institute in Clermont, Fla. She has been working with Sealy since April 2001 to help educate Americans about the importance of sleep to overall health, and the role the mattress plays in achieving deep, restorative sleep.
