RiversEdge buys Canyon Mill
Kirchmeyer takes VP job at Emerald Home

LYNCHBURG, Va. — Case goods importer RiversEdge Furniture has acquired Canyon Mill Furniture from President Robert Kirchmeyer and his investment partners.
Kirchmeyer has joined Emerald Home Furnishings as vice president of product development.
Canyon Mill, founded in 2007, sells imported bath and kitchen furniture such as vanities and kitchen carts and islands to mass merchants. It also imports casual dining, entertainment and office furniture.
Rivers-Edge sources bedroom, dining room, occasional, upholstery and home entertainment furniture from China, Indonesia and Vietnam. Its customer base includes a mix of residential furniture retailers.
RiversEdge managing partner Mark Stubstad said it made sense to purchase the company since RiversEdge already handles many of Canyon Mill's sourcing functions such as engineering and quality control. The purchase also will help RiversEdge expand into Canyon Mill's mass merchant dealer base, he said.
“Mass merchandising is a big business out there,” Stubstad said.
Stubstad did not disclose the purchase price of the transaction, which was effective Jan. 1. He did say that he and RiversEdge business partner James McCloskey each have 50% ownership stake in the company.
Before launching Canyon Mill Furniture, Kirchmeyer was with Atlanta-based retailer Havertys for 22 years in various roles, including vice president of merchandising.
At Emerald, he will lead product development teams in China, Malaysia and Vietnam, overseeing design, engineering, country managers, sample makers and quality assurance staff. He reports to President David Beckmann.
“We're pleased to add the depth and caliber of experience and expertise Robert brings,” said Beckmann. “In Robert, we have a talented leader able to help guide our product development and bring it to the next level.”
Kirchmeyer is based in Atlanta.
