Restonic team building Habitat house in Tupelo

By David Perry -- Furniture Today, January 11, 2009

A group of Restonic employees is building a Habitat for Humanity house here to help a needy Mississippi family.

The house will be built, on a temporary basis, inside the Tupelo Furniture Market in Building 5. It will be on display during the winter market, which opens Jan. 24, where it will help promote the value of such projects to the retailers visiting the market.

Then, when the market is over, the house will be taken down and trucked to its permanent home in Tupelo, where it will be finished and later turned over to its new inhabitants.

The employees work for the Restonic plant in New Albany, Ind., which shows at the Tupelo market. The effort has been backed by Tupelo market officials, the Restonic group said.

David Clark, a Restonic employee, said he and his co-workers have been working with Habitat for Humanity and another non-profit group, Square Foot Ministry, to help fund and build a house for a needy Mississippi family.

“The Tupelo market and the market's Janice Coleman have really helped with this project,” Clark said. “We would like to build several more homes throughout the year.”

The workers will be framing the house the week before the Tupelo Furniture Market. To help with this project, or other home-building projects in the future, contact Clark at dfclark@mindspring.com.

The project, under the banner of Building Hope Together, represents a planned partnership between furniture manufacturers, retailers and non-profit housing ministries. The goal is to build a minimum of 12 houses this year.
