Economic Forecast for 2009  

Furniture Today polled industry analysts and economists to develop a forecast for the upcoming year and 2010. The consensus: another down year for furniture stores, with sales slipping another 6.1% before making a modest gain in 2010. Overall consumer spending for furniture in bedding through all retail channels is projected to fare somewhat better, dipping only 2.0% in '09, on the heels of an estimated 9.3% decline in 2008.  Click here.

 Furniture Today's Retail Planning Guide 2009 includes our economic analyses of the year that was 2008 and our outlook for 2009.The report is divided into three main sections:Economic Outlook - A detailed look at 2008 furniture and bedding sales at retail for the major metropolitan areas and retail sales projections for 2013.

Industry Outlook - Begins with an overview of furniture and bedding sales for 2008, including 2008 retail sales by product category and an overview of consumer spending on furniture and bedding from 2001 through 2008.

Furniture Today's 2009 Bedding Outlook

 

Furniture Today's exclusive 2009 Bedding Forecast provides bedding unit predictions for 2009 and the predicted dollar value of bedding shipments for 2009. Forecast figures were compiled with input from nearly 20 bedding producers, including most of the Top 15 bedding producers. Bedding producers submitted their unit and dollar projections for the new year and Furniture Today weighted the figures based on the market share of the leading respondents

 

 

 

2008 Furniture Product Sales Estimates

This exclusive report estimates 2008 retail sales figures for 19 product categories, including bedding, master bedroom, youth/other adult bedroom, casual dining, entertainment furniture, desks, stationary sofas, reclining chairs and motion sofas. The report also provides total consumer spending for furniture and bedding from 2001 through 2008, as well as a retail roundup for 2008 and a look at retail in 2009.  Click here.
