Doug Waggoner resigns from Mathis Bros.
Pursuing opportunities in wholesale side of furniture
Furniture Today Staff -- Furniture Today, January 16, 2009
ONTARIO, Calif. — Industry veteran Doug Waggoner has left Mathis Bros., where he most recently served as vice president and general manager of the Top 100 company's store here.
Waggoner said he resigned Wednesday to pursue opportunities on the wholesale side of the business, where he also has experience, and preferably in or around Texas, where his daughter is going to school and his wife's family resides.
Mathis Bros. executives could not be reached immediately for information on a replacement.
Waggoner joined Mathis in Oklahoma City, Okla., in March 2000 as vice president of marketing. He moved to Southern California in August 2007 as the shell of Mathis' 500,000-showroom, distribution and headquarters complex in Ontario was going up. Before this, he spent about 15 years with Lane in various positions in its reclining furniture division, including sales representative, Southwest regional sales manager and recliner merchandise manager.
"At this stage in my career, I've accomplished a lot of things in my life, thanks to Lane and (Mathis owners) Larry and Bill Mathis, but I miss my daughter," he said. "My wife misses her family, and I'm just hopeful for some opportunities back on the wholesale side of our industry."
