Classic Leather licensing Tag Galyean collection
By Joan Gunin -- Furniture Today, January 18, 2009
HICKORY, N.C. — Tag Galyean, a specialist in hotel resort design, is bringing his skills to residential upholstery under a new licensing agreement with Classic Leather.
The Tag Collection will debut at the Las Vegas Market, where Classic Leather will show in the World Market Center, space B-158.
Galyean, founder of The TAG Studio, has been involved in projects at resorts including The Greenbrier in White Sulphur Springs, West Va., The Broadmoor in Colorado Springs and Pennsylvania's Hotel Hershey.
The TAG Collection will be marketed to furniture stores, interior designers and the hospitality trade, said Guy Holbrook, national sales manager for Classic Leather.
He said the domestic upholstery producer and the designer already have a working relationship.
“Tag has had considerable dealings with all divisions of Classic Leather,” Holbrook said. “He has used St. Timothy Chair in hospitality designs for the Hotel Hershey and The Broadmoor, and Classic Leather and Statesville Chair in residential designs for homes and cottages surrounding The Broadmoor and The Greenbrier.”
The licensing venture — Galyean's first — was developed as “a collection for everyone” beyond the hospitality arena, said Holbrook. “We are offering him wider distribution.”
The residential collection will be built around “color, quality and casual,” the same theme he applies to his resort hotel work, Galyean said.
Featuring an upscale lodge look, the collection of mostly leather seating will include wood-trimmed upholstered leather headboards, cocktail tables, wall mirrors and accent pillows, as well as some leather-fabric combinations and fabric upholstery.
Plans are underway for future expansion of The TAG Collection, Galyean said.
