RoomStore taps Corio

RICHMOND, Va. — Industry veteran Ron Corio has joined The RoomStore as vice president of merchandising and advertising for the company's 27 West division stores based in Grand Prairie, Texas.

He replaces Dan Provost, who is leaving the company, said Curtis Kimbrell, president of the 67-store chain, the surviving division of Heilig-Meyers.

Corio, with 32 years in the industry, most recently was vice president of sales and marketing for futon importer Lifestyle Solutions. He spent most of his career at retailer Levitz — now part of Levitz Home Furnishings along with Seaman's — most recently as vice president of merchandising for the West Coast division until a management reorganization last year.

Before that, he was vice president of merchandising for all of Levitz from 1996 to 2000 and regional merchandise manager for Levitz's Midwest region from 1985 through 1995.

Having competed in Florida and Texas with Rooms To Go, Corio said he is very familiar with the room package specialty format. "I'm so pleased to go back to Texas and join a concept I believe in and know well," he said.

Provost could not be reached for comment on his plans.
