Robert Louis Short, Lane treasurer, FMCA member

LYNCHBURG, Va. — Robert Louis Short, former treasurer of Lane and longtime member and officer of the Furniture Manufacturers Credit Assn., has died. He was 82.
A World War II veteran who served in the Navy Air Corps., Short joined Lane in 1948 as an accountant and rose to assistant treasurer in 1959 and treasurer in 1974, retiring in 1990.
He spent 21 years on the FMCA's board and 18 years as its treasurer. Short, who was FMCA president in 1974-1975, was known by FMCA members as “the Virginia Gentleman” and “the Teacher” for his service as chairman of the organization's education committee. He was inducted into the FMCA Hall of Fame in 2003.
Survivors include his wife and four children.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army, P.O. Box 2314, Lynchburg, Va. 24505.
