Jabs to receive City of Hope honor

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — Jake Jabs will receive the Lifetime Achievement Award from the City of Hope's National Home Furnishings Industry Chapter during its 18th annual West Coast Golf & Tennis Tournament June 1.
Jabs, president and CEO of American Furniture Warehouse, and Furniture/Today's 2007 Retailer of the Year honoree, will be recognized for is work and contributions as “one of the nation's most successful furniture industry leaders,” City of Hope said.
Jabs got his start in the industry in 1968 with the opening of Mediterranean Galleries in Colorado and Montana. He now owns and leads the 12-store American Furniture Warehouse. The Englewood, Colo.-based chain is No. 28 Furniture/Today's Top 100 with 2007 sales of $350 million.
The tournament will get under way at 10 a.m. at the Coto de Caza Golf & Racquet Club in Coto de Caza, Calif., and will be followed by dinner and an auction.
