Some High Point hotels cut rates for April market
By Heath E. Combs -- Furniture Today, January 26, 2009
HIGH POINT — In response to requests by the High Point Market Authority, a number of local hotels have reduced their rates and minimum-stay restrictions for the spring market, according to the Authority.
On average, regular room rates have dropped 15%, with several hotels offering reductions of as much as 25%, the market sponsor said in a press release Wednesday.
The organization reported that 50% of the hotels it contracts with have reduced rates for the market, which runs April 25-30, and said that another 17% lowered their rates and also eased their minimum-stay requirements.
Twenty of the approximately 60 hotels listed on the market Web site have no minimum-stay requirements and no hotel listed on the site requires more than a three-night minimum, officials said.
“We continue to look for ways to provide affordable accommodations for our Market guests, particularly in light of current economic conditions,” said Brian Casey, president and CEO of the Market Authority.
“We have been very pleased by the number of hoteliers who are working with us on eliminating barriers for customers who wish to attend the market this spring,” he added.
Hotels taking part in a new hotel partner program are listed on the Market Web site at www.highpointmarket.org.
The new rate cuts are offered in addition to the Authority's existing sub-block program, which offers savings to marketgoers for early bookings.
