Eco Exotic showing at Las Vegas Market
Featuring nature-inspired looks from Indonesia

LAS VEGAS — Eco Exotic, a furniture group sponsored by the U.S. Agency for International Development, or USAID, will return to Las Vegas next month with its signature nature-inspired looks from the Indonesian archipelago.
USAID provides non-military foreign aid and helps advance foreign policy by supporting economic growth. "Eco Exotic" is the branding name for Indonesia's sustainable furniture Senada project, which receives financial support from USAID.
The Senada group aims to strengthen exports by establishing a sub-industry of producers who use sustainable materials.
Eco Exotic is a partnership between nine of Indonesia's leading furniture and home accessories manufactures. A press release from the group said it returns to Las Vegas with a wider array of products, competitive pricing and strengthened sustainability credentials.
The group will show in the Living Green Pavilion, which was moved this year to Building B, Suites B-200 and B-220.
Eco Exotic members will bring to market chairs and tables made from salvaged wood, chandeliers fashioned out of dry branches, and an assortment of baskets, bags, mirror frames and other products that consist of naturally renewable materials and almost no chemicals, the release said.
The home furnishings industry provides millions of factory-and village-based jobs in Indonesia and was valued at over $2.5 billion in 2007, according to the program's Web site.
During its first year in 2008, Senada focused on three major activities: upgrading sustainability production practice among several dozen firms; helping 40 companies implement systems required to obtain legal origin certifications; and programs to promote products made through Senada.
Several members are already certified by the Forest Stewardship Council, or FSC, for their sustainable wood sourcing methods, while others will soon conform to sustainable standards set by the Sustainable Furnishing Council, or SFC, a press release said.
"In the Living Green Pavilion, Eco Exotic demonstrates that products can be designed with mainstream appeal from a quality, design, pricing and sustainable standpoint, as evidenced by the range of international clients we ship to, including Pier 1, Maisons du Monde, and Conforama," Eco Exotic member Jajak Suryo Putro said in the release.
A set of training tools-the Sustainable Practices Modules-has been developed to help new Eco Exotic members conform to the sustainability standards of the group.
