Company changes name to Planet Designs & Imports
Furniture Today Staff -- Furniture Today, January 30, 2009
NEW YORK — Case goods importer Planex International has been sold by its founder and president, Frank Ehrlich, to three longtime employees.
The new principal owners are Lillian Freiman, Steven Toolan and Sandy Overeem.
In addition, the name has been changed to Planet Designs & Imports, or PDI. It will continue to be based in New York City and its High Point office will still be managed by industry veteran Dave Ogren.
"With the continuity of the U.S. staff and overseas operations, the new corporation provides a seamless transition for the company's clients," the company said in a press release.
Ehrlich, who retired in late December, started Planex in 1973, importing wood components. The company later began importing finished furniture and the business grew into an OEM supplier to the residential industry, offering custom design and sourcing.
