Grow named Fine Furniture Designs CEO

By Powell Slaughter -- Furniture Today, June 16, 2002

Dan Grow is the new chief executive officer at Fine Furniture Designs, the Shanghai, China-based case goods manufacturer whose U.S. marketing arm is based here.

Grow, formerly president and CEO of Drexel Heritage, also has an ownership stake in the company. He will direct global operations for Fine Furniture and work closely with Laurence Moh, Fine Furniture chairman, as executive consultant to the chairman.

Grow's position is a new one at the year-old manufacturer.

"His 20 years in our industry serving in senior executive positions with Thomasville Furniture and Drexel Heritage will provide further leadership to our company," Moh said. "Dan will work with me and our Asian team, but will primarily provide to our company sales and marketing leadership in the United States."

Geoff Beaston remains president and chief operating officer of the U.S. operation, Fine Furniture Design & Marketing. He also has an ownership position in the company.

Moh said Beaston will spend most of his time with the design and manufacturing team in product development. Beaston didn't give details, but said the company is looking to become a more full-service case goods resource.

Grow said Fine Furniture is a leader in offering upscale product and quality at values that redefine price points in case goods. "The design-oriented consumer wants the look, the quality and the value, while the retailer needs to be profitable," he said.

Fine Furniture began shipping product in March from its new Shanghai plant. The company plans to host a grand opening celebration there in mid-November.

Geoff Beaston, left, Laurence Moh and Dan Grow hope to build Fine Furniture Design & Marketing's case goods business.
