Stores use GERS tool in credit

SAN DIEGO — SAN DIEGO — GERS Retail Systems says two big retailers have launched its CreditConnect for private-label credit processing.
Jackson, Miss.-based Miskelly Furniture and San Diego's Super Stores of America are using the software maker's electronic processing tool at the point of sale to process credit applications and authorizations and also capture customer and sales information, all within one integrated application.
The application lets retailers key in credit information once, GERS said. It eliminates manual processes, reduces paperwork and speeds transactions. By eliminating the need for faxing and redundant data entry, CreditConnect also can help improve customer service, close more sales, and generate measurable bottom line results, the software provider said.
"By doing everything at the point of sale, our credit processing is much faster, which really helps us to take better care of our customers," said Sue Gainey, Miskelly's accounting manager. "Our employees love it too, because they can close sales more quickly without ever having to leave the customer's side."
Brian Semingson, systems administrator for Super Stores of America, said the biggest advantage is the faster turnaround.
"One-step settlement processing means that we get paid sooner. And by reducing the paperwork we had to FedEx to our credit providers, we estimate that we will save $50,000 in FedEx charges each year," he said.
