Dealers say Dick Idol line off to strong start

ASHEBORO, N.C. — Klaussner's Dick Idol Home Collection is off to a strong start, according to several retailers who bought the package at the October market.
Product started hitting retail floors the first week in March, according to Klaussner, which is based here. Dick Idol galleries total about 240,000 square feet of retail space, the producer said.
Star Furniture in Houston said it sold seven armoires and four bedroom suites before the collection was completely set up.
"The Dick Idol collection is a unique blend of furniture and art that reflects the casual lifestyles of our customers," said Mark Schreiber, president of Star Furniture. "Even before we could get the entire collection on the floor, the signature piece, the armoire, was sold."
Kittle's Furniture, with stores in Indiana and Ohio, ordered five containers of Idol's High Country Heritage product at the fall market, and within two weeks on the floor ordered four more containers.
"The Dick Idol Collection is the most exciting new line of furniture and accessories in years," said store owner Jim Kittle. "We couldn't wait to bring it to Kittle's."
Other retailers reported similar success. Sandy's Furniture in British Columbia sold 50% of its stock in four days. Walker's Furniture in Spokane, Wash., sold out its entire gallery in one week, and Blowing Rock Furniture in North Carolina sold three containers in 10 days.
Klaussner introduced the Dick Idol Home Collection in partnership with Dick Idol Ventures. The branded line of licensed products includes furniture, home textiles, light fixtures, accessories and art reproductions.
Idol, an outdoorsman, sculptor and publisher, is hitting the road to promote his products, which celebrate nature and adventure.
His schedule for April and May includes stops at stores of Michigan's Art Van, Nebraska Furniture Mart, Colorado's American Furniture Warehouse, and Salt Lake City-based R.C. Willey. He also plans appearances at Kittle's and Star.
