COMMERCE, Calif. — Two woodworking industry leaders, Larry Hilchie and Don Razor, have been honored as Suppliers of the Year by the Assn. of Woodworking and Finishing Suppliers.
Awards were presented for both 2001 and 2002 at the association's biennial installation and awards ceremony.
Hilchie, regional manager for Grecon Dimter, a Weinig Group company, was honored for 2001 for his efforts to launch and foster WoodLinks USA, which teams industry professionals with high school educators in order to bring highly qualified entry-level employees into the wood manufacturing field.
"WoodLinks USA would not exist today if not for Larry," said AWFS President Tom Orlando of CTD Machines. "He got the U.S. industry involved by taking every opportunity to urge us to look at the successful Canadian WoodLinks program, and to use it as a model for the United States."
Razor, Western regional general manager for Hanes Inds., a Leggett & Platt company, received the 2002 award. He served on the AWFS board for 15 years ending in 1999, and has remained active in the association. He serves on the trade show committee and volunteered to chair a new upholstery and bedding marketing subcommittee.
"He has done every job anyone ever asked him to do and then volunteered for even more — and he did it all on his own time in addition to running one of the largest supply companies to the furniture industry," said Douglas Kemp of Kemp Hardware.
Kemp said Razor also has enabled many of his employees to volunteer for the association, and has inspired many Leggett & Platt associates to get involved in AWFS.
