Kentucky enacts interior designer law
By Furniture Today Staff -- Furniture Today, April 14, 2002
WASHINGTON — Kentucky has enacted an interior design title law that recognizes and provides standards and certification for the profession.
Certified interior designers must meet the education and experience requirements set by the National Council for Interior Design Qualification and pass the NCIDQ exam. Registrants who wish to renew their certification are required to complete 12 hours of continuing education during the year preceding the expiration of their current certificates.
The law was supported by the Kentucky Interior Design Legislative Organization.
Phyllis Moore, chairman for the American Society of Interior Designers' Legislative Advisory Council, said the new law will provide a new level of accountability in the profession.
"This law will raise the professionalism of interior designers and will directly benefit Kentucky consumers of design services," Moore said. "Interior designers must be knowledgeable about many issues, from flammability ratings of fabrics and finishes to building codes and how to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act."
