Latex Foam honored for response to factory fire

ANSONIA, Conn. — Latex Foam Products was awarded honorable mention in the second annual Corporate Citizenship Awards, given by the United States Chamber of Commerce.
Winners were selected based on exceptional leadership and community assistance during 2001.
Latex Foam Products was honored for its efforts to assist its 240 Connecticut-based employees after a fire destroyed its headquarters and factory last May. In addition to arranging for $1 million in supplemental pay, the company held an employee meeting at a local high school where local and state agencies met with employees to advise them on how to secure unemployment benefits, job retraining services, career counseling, utility, rent and food assistance and retirement planning advice.
"This is indeed an honor for us to be included with the others," said Steve Russo, president and chief executive officer of Latex Foam. "We have always valued the contributions of our employees, some of whom have been with us since we started doing business 25 years ago."
