Mayo adding leather program
By Joan Gunin -- Furniture Today, April 14, 2002
TEXARKANA, Texas — Fabric upholstery manufacturer Mayo has embarked on a dedicated domestic leather program and is introducing four frames at the April market.
"We have begun cutting in our own factory (in Texarkana) instead of relying on an outside source," said Don McCoy, vice president of Mayo. "Everything is being upholstered here. We can ship quickly and handle special orders for dealers who don't have full access to container-direct."
He said leather would add depth to Mayo's lineup and make it a one-stop resource for retailers.
Retails will start at $1,699, said Ben Mayo, project engineer for Mayo leather. "We're taking an upper-end approach with coil spring construction and better leather hides from Italy and elsewhere in Europe and South America," he said.
Introductions include transitional and casual/contemporary looks, as well as the Comfort Flex recliner chair, at $999 retail.
The leather cover selection encompasses about 25 SKUs and six or seven leathers.
