Ficks Reed offering oil paintings to complement Natchez launch
By Joan Gunin -- Furniture Today, April 14, 2002
HIGH POINT — High-end wicker and rattan resource Ficks Reed is displaying and selling original oil paintings by Cincinnati artist Holly Schapker in its showroom here.
"We sought out Holly Schapker's work because it provides an excellent complement to our presentation of the new Historic Natchez Collection," said Gene Saenger, president of Ficks Reed. "Our showroom décor is centered around the launch of this line licensed by the Historic Natchez Foundation."
Ficks Reed's has 26 pieces in its Natchez offering.
Much of Schapker's work involves delicate florals.
"Each of my oil paintings is a compromise between strict attention to detail and a free-flowing, loose quality," Schapker said.
The paintings are appropriate to the elegantly casual nature of the Natchez collection, Saenger said. "Her paintings are soft and harmonize perfectly with the relaxed furniture we have created," he said.
Schapker work is being featured in a two-artist show, "Fruit & Flowers," running through mid-May in the art gallery at Closson's, a Cincinnati home furnishings store.
Her paintings have been commissioned by the Cincinnati Art Museum and are found in numerous corporate and private collections. Her artwork has been shown in galleries and juried art shows throughout Cincinnati, and can be found on the campus of Xavier University.
Other Natchez home furnishings licensees include Henredon, F. Schumacher, Feizy Rugs, Friedman Brothers, Mottahedah & Co., Liberty Workshop, Mantels of Yesteryear and Elizabeth Bader.
Ficks Reed shows at 101 North Hamilton St., Suite 119.
