FurnishNet signs 8 stores

SAN DIEGO — FurnishNet has signed eight more retailers, including Mattress Gallery and Baer's, for its e-commerce business model.
City of Commerce, Calif.-based Gallery Corp. has 36 Mattress Gallery stores in Southern California, while Baer's Furniture operates 12 stores in South Florida.
The other retailers include 11-store Levin Furniture in Smithton, Pa.; 13-store Roomful Express, Pittsburgh; Kensington Furniture, Northfield, N.J.; and single-store retailers Belfort Furniture, Sterling, Va.; Rotmans, Worcester, Mass.; and Selden's Interior Furnishings, Fife, Wash.
Mattress Gallery will begin implementing FurnishNet's electronic commerce trade platform for purchase orders, acknowledgements, advance ship notices and invoices beginning in May. The sleep shop chain is a Simmons-only retailer.
"We briefly looked at using EDI for Mattress Gallery, but that would have meant high consulting dollars and open-ended costs," said Jim Ristas, president of Mattress Gallery. "We selected FurnishNet because they know exactly how to succeed in getting retailers online. They have the technical expertise to make it happen."
Mattress Gallery will be able to take orders entered into its retail system and send them through FurnishNet for delivery to Simmons' corporate information system, eliminating errors associated with manual processing.
"We send orders several times a day," Ristas said. "Getting them into the system earlier means that our manufacturer will be able to deliver at least a day earlier … and we'll be able to deliver to the consumer's home a day earlier."
Mattress Gallery is FurnishNet's first single-vendor retail customer.
The other seven retailers had combined sales of about $300 million last year, and all will use FurnishNet to electronically send purchase orders and receive purchase order acknowledgements, advance ship notices, and invoices.
"With these new deals, we are contracted to manage more than $885 million in purchase-order volume," said Ron Sellers, FurnishNet's vice president of sales. "We've demonstrated to the industry the value of utilizing Web-based technology to drive down operating costs and improve the consumer experience."
