New at Market: Wicker & Rattan

Product Trends

  • Media Frenzy: Such exotic mix-and-match applications as abaca, bamboo, mahogany, seagrass or leather embolden wicker and rattan furnishings.

  • Trailing Natchez: Licensing continues as Ficks Reed rolls out the 26-piece Historic Natchez Collection, evoking the graciousness of the Old South.

Acacia Home & Garden HS 102

The company introduces Poly-Vexin, its own newly developed vinyl-based extruded material that is 100% synthetic and weather resistant.

  • Indoor/outdoor wicker seating includes the Monte Verde collection. The five-piece group retails at $2,945 or individually, sofa ($1,199), lounge chair ($699), ottoman ($299), cocktail table ($399), end table ($349). A new golden antique finish imbues the traditional grouping with a fresh outdoor look. Seat cushions covered in Cone Fabric Palmieri Multi.

  • For outdoor dining, the Bel Air dining armchair features 100% synthetic vinyl construction. Dining table and four chairs retail for $1,999.

Bauer International SMS G504

This producer of rattan, leather, mahogany and seagrass furnishings will introduce approximately 200 pieces. The spring line includes Bauer's first fully upholstered line, as well as a 1930s Art Deco Colonial collection, a children's line and other accessories.

  • Introductions include the Winston glider rocker, made of woven abaca, rattan and wood. Aluminum accents are used on the beads along the top rail.

Newly expanded showroom. Introducing several complete collections as well as many new SKUs and additions to existing lines.

Ficks Reed HM 119

  • The 26-piece Historic Natchez collection, evoking the warmth, style and graciousness of Natchez, debuts. Chris Bergelin designed the collection, under license from the Historic Natchez Foundation. Featured pieces include the Academy dining chairs in rattan with leather details, inspired by Chippendale chairs found in Texada. The Fisk dining table and the Library three-tiered end table, from Choctaw, are intricately hand-carved with wicker, rattan and cane accents. The Town House tester bed, the Governor's House and Holmes bombé chests, and the Longwood sofa are all imbued with rattan, raffia and wicker or leather details. The collection includes a desk, a casual wing chair, mirrors and occasional tables, as well as new fabrics and finishes.

To complement the Historic Natchez collection as well as its 100 other pieces of wicker and rattan, Ficks Reed will exhibit 12 oil paintings by Cincinnati artist Holly Schapker, whose works will be featured concurrently in a two-person show in a major Cincinnati art gallery.

Natural Elements by BenchCraft HM 217

  • Introductions include three fully woven queen sleepers with correlating chairs, ottomans and tables. Materials include woven rattan peel, woven wicker and woven wicker combined with wood. Target pricing will range from $999 up.

  • Woven rattan peel three-panel screen available in four finishes. Target pricing $449.

  • Wood armoire with bamboo appliqué motif in vintage wood-tone finish.

Palecek IHFC D202

  • Introductions include the Havanawood square tub chair, woven from dark, multi-shaded abaca. Top trim and legs are made of plantation hardwood featuring a hand-rubbed finished in dark umber.

  • The Rope Lounge chair meshes two-tone twisted natural rope into a check pattern around the frame. The legs are constructed from plantation hardwood in an umber finish.

  • Chair cushions for each chair are available in either leather or fabric.

Trade Wind Treasures 3574 South N.C. Hwy 8, Lexington

In its market debut, Trade Wind Treasures offers a direct-to-retail program featuring low per SKU minimum order quantities and very aggressive pricing.

  • This program features the branded Mary O'Brien Tropical Estates living room group. Made of dark abaca rope and dark cracked coco shell arm fronts the 3-seat sofa retails for $1,049. Two-and-a-half seat sofa is $999 retail; loveseat, $899; lounge chair, $649. Retail pricing on these pieces is based on mid-point fabric selection.

Whitecraft Rattan MS 392

  • Additions to Cityscapes collection include a TV chest that marries mahogany with smashed bamboo (retail, $2600).

  • The Plantation collection gains a dining set comprised of mahogany and rattan. Armchair is retail priced at $1,000.

Existing collections grow. Two finishes added as well as optional premium cushioning and fresh tropical prints. Custom options increase.
