New at Market: Motion Upholstery

Product Trends

  • Lots of Leather: Leather is moving into motion upholstery in a big way, with producers often utilizing on cut-and-sew operations in South America and Asia to achieve aggressive pricing.

  • Double Your Pleasure: Two recliners, usually positioned side-by-side, are now being featured on many reclining sofas.

  • Sensational Suede: Faux suede, microfiber suede and numerous other forms of suede will take center stage in many upholstery showrooms.

Ashley IHFC H900

  • Expanding motion sofa offerings at $699 and $799.

Unveiling several motion sectionals at $1,299 to $1,999. The sectional offerings include a home theater seating collection.

Berkline IHFC C754

  • A new reclining sofa with casual contemporary styling and a microfiber cover is at $799.

  • A motion sectional with overscaled transitional styling is at $1,999 in fabric.

  • Also expanding its offerings of leather groups and sectionals to include a sectional with pillowtop seating and oversized scaling at $2,699, and a motion sofa/loveseat group at $1,499.

  • Adding a motion sofa at $999 to its Solano collection.

Ekornes IHFC D820

  • Making its debut in the home theater category with a pair of seating groups. One group, Pegasus, features amplified silhouettes and more square construction. Both groups combine sofas and loveseats with the company's Stressless reclining chair.

  • Also introducing Imago, a line of Stressless chairs using a suede-like microfiber.

El-Ran FP 523

Expanding its family room and sectional groupings with a contemporary, European-styled group at $1,499. This reclining sofa/loveseat/reclining chair group has a top-grain leather cover. The reclining sofa also is available at $999 in a leather/vinyl match.

Franklin IHFC W746

Introductions include a pair of motion sectionals at $1,599 and $1,799 and a motion sofa at $899. All three entries have contemporary styling, and the $1,599 sectional has an optional massage unit.

La-Z-Boy FP 103

A new motion sofa, 436 Kazbah, features pillowtop seating, a soft back and large padded arms.

Lane IHFC C858

  • A pair of motion sofas at $799 and $899, featuring casual contemporary styling and pillowtop seating.

  • A motion sectional at $1,999, including side-by-side recliners and a sleeper.

Natuzzi 130 W. Commerce Ave.

Adding a motion sofa, Model I127, to its successful Italsofa line. The new promotionally priced model features two recliners and subtle envelope arms.

PeopLoungers NFM 101

  • Strengthening motion sofa offerings at $599 to $799, including a new $799 model in a microfiber fabric.

  • Also introducing a reclining sectional at $1,399 that includes pillowtop seating and chaise ottoman.

WECO 220 Elm 302

Adding several motion pieces to its ModernArt and Varianta collections.

  • Additions to ModernArt include an ottoman that combines with a table.

  • Varianta's additions include an ottoman that converts into a chair, as well as a 360-degree rotating end chair.
