Lang named March of Dimes Dallas Division chairman

DALLAS — Veteran bedding retailer Phil Lang has been named the 2002 chairman of the March of Dimes Dallas Division. He also serves on the executive committee for the March of Dimes North Texas Division.
Lang, former chief executive officer and president of Top 100 retailer Mattress Giant, began volunteering with the national health charity four years ago.
"It's an honor for me to provide leadership as the March of Dimes moves forward as the largest source of funds for research and programs that help mothers and babies," he said. "My personal goals are to strengthen the ties of our local businesses and supporters, as well as increase youth participation."
Lang's personal experience with one of his daughters, Lenore, inspired his interest in the organization. She was born premature and was the beneficiary of March of Dimes-funded research and programs that have saved millions of premature babies from death and disability. Lenore is now a healthy teenager.
His work with one of the March of Dimes' major events, Star Chefs of Dallas, helped that event double its fund-raising success.
The March of Dimes seeks to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects and infant mortality. Founded in 1938, the March of Dimes funds programs of research, community services, education and advocacy to save babies.
Lang, who works as a consultant to the furniture industry, also does volunteer work for the American Diabetes Assn. and the American Cancer Society.
