Paladin leases plant, readies upholstery line
By Gary Evans -- Furniture Today, April 7, 2002
HIDDENITE, N.C. — Paladin Inds., a new upholstery and import company founded by former Alexvale executive Tim Bolick, has leased with the option to buy the former Classic Leather/Statesville Chair facility here and plans to show its first product at the April market.
The 95,000-square-foot plant here will be used to produce and warehouse upholstered sofas, loveseats and chairs, along with exposed wood and imported frames from China, the Philippines and Indonesia.
Bolick said these groups will be coordinated with occasional groups imported from the same countries.
The 6,800-square-foot High Point showroom is at 110 North Wrenn St. and occupies the first floor of the building. This will be Bolick's first showing since he left Alexvale in December.
"The focus of the line will be in the $699 to $999 retail price points with a concentration on using better covers, better construction and quick deliveries to our customers," he said. Styling will be casual traditional to transitional while concentrating on specific fashion categories with cover selection. Frame construction will be of 5/4 kiln-dried hardwood with proprietary steel-framed drop-in unit.
Besides Bolick, who is Paladin's president, principals in the company are Jeff Ringwald, vice president/Midwest sales, who spent 19 years with Bolick at Alexvale, and Tommy Ayers, vice president of operations, who has 30 years experience in the furniture industry.
"Our focus will be on 'fashion at a price,' with a heavy emphasis on customer satisfaction that starts with timely deliveries to the retailer," Bolick said.
Paladin's target customers are major retailers and chains both in and outside the United States.
