Bombay's Bailey Street set for Vegas

FORT WORTH, Texas — Bailey Street Trading Co., the wholesale subsidiary of retailer The Bombay Company, has signed a lease for a 2,700-square-foot showroom on the third level of the proposed World Market Center in Las Vegas.
Bailey Street had revenues in its fiscal year ended Feb. 2 — its first year — of $2 million. It doesn't supply Bombay stores, instead selling proprietary home accents to more than 2,000 retailers across North America. Bombay has said it expects Bailey to become a $50 million business within five years.
Bailey Street will be in the first phase of the planned 7.5 million-square-foot World Market Center. The first Las Vegas market is expected in early 2004.
"Our research indicates this market will be well attended by international buyers to complement a strong domestic buyer turnout," said Linda Stephenson, Bailey Street's president.
The company will continue to show in Market Square in High Point, expanding its space to about 1,600 square feet in October from the current 900 square feet. It also will continue to sell out of nine regional sales representative showrooms in the United States, Mexico and Canada, Stephenson said.
