FurnishNet, MGM team up to provide online order tracking

SAN DIEGO — FurnishNet and MGM Transport are collaborating to enable manufacturers using the two companies to send a tracking number along with order acknowledgements for all orders shipped via MGM.
Retailers can then track orders online and in real time, according to FurnishNet, a GERS company.
"We're giving retailers the ability to provide a higher degree of service to customers," said Edward Massood, president of MGM Transport. "By providing a detailed report of a shipment status, we can answer when an order was picked up, where it is in the cycle, and who signed for the merchandise on what date."
The information relieves manufacturers of answering such order-related questions, and makes it easier for retailers to be proactive in helping consumers, he said.
High Point-based MGM has a fleet of 230 tractors and 710 trailers. Customers include Thomasville, Stanley, Bassett, Federated Department Stores, Carson Pirie Scott, and Raymour & Flanigan.
