Carson's to introduce first case goods in April

HIGH POINT — Carson's of High Point, a contemporary upholstery and occasional manufacturer, will enter the case goods category at the April market when it introduces dining room as part of its new Ingenue collection.
"There are a lot of companies that do contemporary upholstery or contemporary case goods, but there aren't too many doing both," said Tom Stout Jr., vice president of operations for Carson's. "We're trying to create a need to buy our product."
Ingenue is a coordinated collection that includes three upholstery groups, the new dining room, and occasional combining metal with wood, marble or glass, plus a home entertainment wall — another first for Carson's.
The dining room, in contemporary walnut and maple, has metal and glass elements in some pieces.
Pricing isn't final, but sample retails include a buffet for about $2,399, two-leaf table for $1,399, and china for around $1,999. The collection also includes a game table.
"If the collection is as successful as we think it will be, we hope to come out with bedroom and another finish in October," Stout said.
Carson's will source its new case goods, but Stout declined to identify where, since the company has narrowed its choices to two plants in different countries.
Buyers can get a look at Ingenue upholstery and occasional at premarket next month, but the case goods won't arrive till the end of March.
