Kittle's promotes Durkott, Easter as Kittle makes time for politics

INDIANAPOLIS — Kittle's Furniture has promoted John Durkott to chief executive officer and Eric Easter to president and chief operating officer to free the retailer's owner and chairman to handle new political duties.
Chairman Jim Kittle Jr., who was also CEO, will divide his time between strategic issues at Kittle's and the Republican Party of Indiana, where he was recently elected state chairman, the company announced. Kittle, Durkott and Easter now form the senior management group for the Top 100 company, with 17 stores in Indiana and Ohio.
Durkott is a 28-year Kittle's veteran and had been president and chief operating officer since 1982. Easter has been in the industry 20 years and with Kittle's since 1993, most recently as executive vice president of merchandising and marketing. He will continue to oversee merchandising and marketing.
A longtime Republican activist, Kittle said his company's strong, proven management team "has provided me with the opportunity to serve my community in other ways."
"I'm no longer part of the day-to-day decision making loop," he said. "My participation as chairman will probably evolve into maybe 10% of my time."
And while Kittle said he plans to keep attending High Point markets, he'll miss his first one in some 30 years in April to attend the Republican National Committee meeting in New Orleans.
