Community service is a win-win

Philanthropy and community service are good for the soul, and they work nicely for marketing, too, especially when the project dovetails with a company's specialty.
For instance, Sleep America recently participated with a Phoenix hospital, in an effort called Project Hope, to place five dozen used but still serviceable hospital beds and mattresses.
Sleep America provided radio advertisements to spread word that the beds would be given to people who need their special functions.
Applications were available to Sleep America stores across the Valley where people could stop in and see what type of bed they might receive. John C. Lincoln Health Network randomly selected 60 recipients from the hundreds of applicants that were submitted. Sleep America has since been providing the delivery, set up and instructions for using the beds.
"From the very young to the old and infirm, we are helping people enjoy a better night's sleep," said Debbie Gaby, president of Sleep America.
Len Gaby, chief executive officer, added that community service such as Project Hope helps Sleep America raise awareness and improve its image in its markets.
