AFMA kicks off Safety Awards program for '02

By Furniture Today Staff -- Furniture Today, February 17, 2002

HIGH POINT — The American Furniture Manufacturers Assn. has kicked off its 2002 Safety Awards program with entry forms mailed to member companies.

The program is designed to recognize and encourage safety in furniture manufacturing facilities.

Awards are presented in these categories: A 40% or more reduction from the previous year's lost workday injury and illness, or LWDII, rate; operating 50% or more below AFMA's industry average LWDII rate; working without a lost-time workday case last year; and five, 10 or 15 consecutive wins in any category.

Plants also are recognized when they reach one, two, three, four, five, six or seven million safe work hours without a lost workday case.

Entries must be returned by April 12. For information, call Gail Stricklin, (336) 884-5000, ext. 137.
