Mega Group to take part in Calgary market

By Michael J. Knell -- Furniture Today, February 18, 2002

SASKATOON, Saskatchewan — Mega Group will take part in Market Showplace Aug. 17-19 at the Round-Up Center in Calgary, Alberta.

Michael Graydon, president and chief executive officer of the buying group, said the market's timing isn't ideal for ordering fall product, but Mega will have a space in Hall D "and we'll put our resources behind it."

The show usually is held in mid-June, but show organizer Furniture West moved it to August this year to avoid a summit meeting of world leaders scheduled for Calgary.

For the past three years, Mega and Furniture West have held a joint market, targeted primarily at independent retailers in western Canada.

Cantrex Group's Ontario, Western and Atlantic Canada division also supports the show. This year, its national convention is set for the nearby resort community of Canmore on Aug. 15-16.

Mega's participation in Calgary is product focused. Its two other major events are forums for education and networking. The annual general meeting and convention is set for May 8-11 in Nashville, Tenn., in conjunction with Best Brands Plus, Mega's U.S.-based strategic partner. The annual fall convention is Sept. 5-7 in Ottawa.
