Sherwin-Williams readies Web-linked color system

CLEVELAND — Known for its tipped paint can logo, Sherwin-Williams, intends to make a splash with furniture makers with the help of Color Creations, a new and as-yet unreleased proprietary color management technology.
According to John Draughn, color and design director, Color Creations is a process that blends Web-color management and photo imaging.
The system will allow any of Sherwin-Williams' facilities worldwide to "see" the exact color and detail of a sample panel. Draughn stressed the key is not only the true-color interpretation, but also the tagging of all pertinent information needed to allow a factory to produce a given finish or coating.
Sherwin-Williams has been working with a number of partners to develop the process and expects to roll it out later this year.
Draughn said the system can "eliminate or greatly reduce the associated costs and streamline the time for the shipment of actual samples overseas." With imports on the rise, he said, this could become increasingly critical.
"As more customers go overseas and source from a variety of countries, new technologies are required to maintain a competitive edge over our competition," he said.
