Century's de la Renta line due in Oct.

HICKORY, N.C. — Century Furniture and Oscar de la Renta are teaming up for a line of furniture licensed in the fashion designer's name, and set to debut at the October High Point market.
Century said the collection will include at least 55 case pieces and possibly as many as 70. The number of upholstery frames remains to be determined.
The collection will have three or four themes based on de la Renta's various homes. An estate in Kent, Conn., will inspire a series of pieces along the lines of a gentleman farmer's manor. A more urban flavor draws from his large pied-a-terre in New York City, and an island theme will be based on his resort home in the Dominican Republic.
De la Renta will help design the new collection.
"My entire concept of lifestyle is built on the foundation of my homes," de la Renta said. "There is no more important expression of this concept than my own personal living space."
He said he was "impressed by the capabilities and sensibilities of the people at Century." He plans to attend the October market to support the introduction of the line.
"We are very enthusiastic about this collection," said Bob Maricich, Century president and chief executive officer. "We review more than 20 licensing deals a year. This one really excited us because of the quality and depth of the product, the charm and personality of the man, his enormous design talent and the strength of his whole organization.
"His furnishings, like his clothing, are the ultimate in taste, refinement and elegance."
