NORWALK, Ohio — Norwalk Furniture, a manufacturer of custom-order upholstery, kicked off its 100th anniversary celebration with a gala for over 400 employees and retirees here, the company's home since 1919.
The party began a year-long celebration for the privately held, fourth-generation business, which began in Toledo, Ohio as Galpin and Gerken, specializing in repair and reupholstering. The company expanded into manufacturing in 1906.
A party for dealers and the press is scheduled for April 18, the official opening day of the April market, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the company's showroom, 215 South Main St.
During the gala here, Chairman and President Jim Gerken introduced the commemorative video, "Something to be Proud Of," which will be spotlighted at the company's annual dealer convention in San Francisco, Feb. 24–27.
Gerken said, "We have had 100 years of success based upon three important values: A focus on customers and employees as important individuals who make valuable contributions to our success; leaders who have a passion for the business and the courage to pursue innovation; and an appreciation of the blessings of ambitious people willing to work hard to secure our niche in a competitive industry."
The company also will sponsor a bike tour in Norwalk this summer to benefit a health charity. In addition, a commemorative booklet of the company's history will be published.
