Stanley readying a Blockbuster deal
By Furniture Today Staff -- Furniture Today, April 28, 2002
HIGH POINT — HIGH POINT — Stanley Furniture has teamed up with Blockbuster Video to promote the re-engineering of its home entertainment furniture.
Stanley will offer 25 free movie rentals on DVD or VHS at Blockbuster stores to all consumers who buy a home entertainment system between Oct. 1 and Jan. 6.
"This promotional tie-in with Blockbuster is especially enticing because we share the same target market as Blockbuster's 48 million members," said Kelly Cain, Stanley senior vice president and product manager of home entertainment.
Retailers participating in the program, introduced at the April market, will display point-of-purchase signage with both the Stanley and Blockbuster logos. As an added incentive, retail floor associates will receive five free rentals with each consumer sale.
"Our research shows that last year, while total television sales decreased 13%, sales of rear projection big screen TVs increased 12%," said Cain.
"Our new entertainment units will house most wide screen TVs, although it depends on the style of the television and where the speakers are placed," he said. "Most current entertainment units are still designed to house a standard 36-inch TV in a 4 by 3 ratio. Today's true rectangular screens no longer fit in those units."
