Jay Henry Hershey, industry veteran

MIDLOTHIAN, Va. — MIDLOTHIAN, Va. — Jay Henry Hershey, who worked in the industry with Armstrong World Inds. and later as an economic development representative for the state of Virginia, has died. He was 78.
Hershey retired last year as manager of the International Market Planning Program, later called the Global Market Research Program, of the Virginia Economic Development Partnership/Division of International Trade. He had been with the state agency part-time since 1991, and his work kept him in contact with the furniture industry.
From 1947 until 1990, he was with Armstrong, retiring as an international sales and marketing manager. From 1968 until his retirement, Armstrong owned Thomasville Furniture Inds. Furniture Brands International acquired Thomasville in 1995.
Survivors include his wife, a son and a daughter.
The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society.
