Master Design CEO resigns
By Powell Slaughter -- Furniture Today, March 24, 2002
ONTARIO, Calif. — ONTARIO, Calif. — Gene Hodges has resigned as president and chief executive officer of case goods importer Master Design, but will remain as an adviser for six months.
Hodges said the company's new owner, Test-Rite International, will soon name a new head for Master Design, probably someone from Test-Rite management.
"Through this transition period I've agreed to stay on as an executive consultant," Hodges said. He will advise ownership on business strategy and customer and supplier relationship management in an exclusive six-month commitment to Master Design.
"I'll still be visiting customers and suppliers, and also making recommendations about showrooms and market strategies," Hodges said. "I'll work on sales strategies and improvement of inventory management. We'll be examining various business models."
While his agreement with Test-Rite is open to extension, Hodges said he'll consider new opportunities.
The six-month commitment, he said, "will help me fulfill and complete my responsibilities in arranging the sale, and also supporting the receiver during the transition period."
Hodges came to Master Design three years ago and guided the company away from its association with its financially troubled former parent company, Master Home Ltd. of Taiwan. He helped arrange the company's sale out of receivership, and shifted sourcing out of Master Home-controlled plants in China.
