Carpenter steps down as Kincaid SVP of sales
By Clint Engel -- Furniture Today, March 24, 2002
HUDSON, N.C. — HUDSON, N.C. — Bill Carpenter has resigned as senior vice president of sales at Kincaid after 20 years with the manufacturer, becoming the second executive to leave the company this month.
"I'm just looking at other opportunities with the industry," Carpenter said. He said his decision was partly the result of a desire to return to his hometown of Tulsa, Okla. He plans to remain on the manufacturing side of the industry.
Earlier this month, Jack DeBonis resigned as Kincaid's vice president of marketing. He and former AIG Design President James W. Jones are acquiring a majority interest in case goods importer Global Furniture. Carpenter said his resignation is not related to that of DeBonis.
An industry veteran of more than 30 years, Carpenter got his start with the former Manhattan Furniture, a family-owned retailer in Tulsa. He was a sales representative for Schweiger, Riverside and Lloyd Flanders before joining Kincaid, where he was a sales representative and regional manager before becoming vice president of sales.
He was promoted to senior vice president of sales two years ago. He was instrumental in helping Kincaid build its sales force and develop its gallery and store network.
"We certainly hate to see Bill leave. He's been a valued employee for 20 years," said Kincaid President Steve Kincaid. "He just felt he needed to pursue other opportunities."
Kincaid hasn't begun a search for Carpenter's replacement, but said that, "ideally, we will have somebody in place by market." He said the company is getting close to replacing DeBonis but has nothing to announce yet.
