AFMA plans imports seminar March 1

GREENSBORO, N.C. — An American Furniture Manufacturers Assn. seminar here March 1 will take an in-depth look at "The Impact of Imports on the Furniture Industry."
Among the speakers is John D. Bassett III, president and chief executive officer of Vaughan-Bassett Furniture in Galax, Va., who will discuss Vaughan-Bassett's determination to remain a strong domestic producer in spite of rising imports.
The day-long seminar, presented by AFMA's Purchasing and Materials Management Division, also will feature these topics:

"Working With the Chinese — An Inside Look," by industry consultant Lee Houston.

"Touring China and Its Manufacturing Plants," by Andy Santulli, director of manufacturing services and technology, LifeStyle Furnishings International.

"The Changes That Globalization Has Brought on the American Hosiery Industry," by Sid Smith, former president and CEO, The Hosiery Assn.

Panel discussion on imports with Jeb Bassett, vice president of international procurement, Bassett Furniture; Norman Coley, vice president, Lee Inds.; Rad Darby, senior vice president, Akzo Nobel Coatings; and Andy Gfesser, president, Trendler Components.

"Life's Choices and Changes," by professional speaker Laura Hamilton.
