Jeff Kantor to take new role at Macy's
Will head retailer's home furnishings business
Carole Sloan -- Furniture Today, February 4, 2009
NEW YORK — Jeff Kantor, president of big ticket, furniture and rugs, at Macy's has been named president and general merchandise manager heading the new Macy's Inc. home furnishings business.
The move is part of a reorganization that also will eliminate the Macy's Home Store, which has been responsible for the buying, merchandising and marketing of home furnishings for Macy's stores nationwide.
Tim Adams, who has been chairman and CEO of Macy's Home Store, will become chief private brand officer for Macy's department stores, responsible for the organization that designs, sources and markets the company's private brands.
Kantor joined the company after Macy's (then Federated Department Stores) acquired May Department Stores in 2005. He had been president of May's Hecht's/Strawbridge's division.
In his new position, which Macy's said will be effective early in the second quarter, Kantor will report to Jeffrey Gennette, who will become chief merchandising officer, responsible for all buying and merchandising functions for Macy's nationwide as well as relations with vendor partners. Gennette is now chairman and CEO of Macy's West.
Michael Gould remains chairman and CEO of Bloomingdale's, which continues to operate as a separate division.
