United offers leather sofas, recliners

TUPELO , Miss. — Upholstery producer United's recently launched leather program generated significant orders at the market here, said Hugh Hargett, the company's sales manager.
The program features all-leather and leather-match stationary sofas, as well as leather-match recliners. It began shipping early last month.
"We conducted two years of research and development before this introduction," said Hargett. United is the two-year-old amalgam of Comfort Furniture, Parkhill and United Chair.
The program is geared toward independent customers in need of less than truckload orders, Hargett said. United has the ability to offer loads mixing fabric and leather upholstery because the products are all made at the same facility, added Daryl Webb, sales and customer service representative.
Five stationary sofas were launched here and three more frames will be added for the High Point market in April. The bulk of the line addresses traditional style themes in a range of seven colors.
An aniline-dyed sofa retails at $999. Pigment-corrected hides are also offered.
The launch also includes two recliner chairs featuring leather-match combined with top grain splits.
United is sourcing its hides from Italy and South America, but performs cut-and-sew and complete assembly at its Okolona, Miss., plant.
